My students plant Red Emperor tulip bulbs each year as part of the Journey North Tulip Study. In this global experiment, citizen scientists across the Northern Hemisphere track spring via this brilliant red tulip! Always stunning every year!

Day #119 - What Am I? #15

This may be slightly easy. But, can you guess what this is??

Day # 118- Horseshoe Crab

For those of you not familiar with this ocean critter, it's a horseshoe crab on its back. (This one is not alive.) Although they're pretty creepy looking- something between a crab and a large spider- they are pretty harmless. Just bizarre, that's all!

Day #117 - Daffodil

You know it's finally spring, when flowers, like this daffodil, start to bloom with color! It's such a contrast from the dull, lifeless ground in the winter.

Day #116- So Much Color

Spring color is popping everywhere- even along the side of my school. These grape hyacinths were planted years ago, along with the daffodils behind them. They are reliable predictors of warm weather to come!

Day #115 - Bright Moon

The moon was beautiful tonight! I love how it is shining brightly behind the clouds!!

Day #114- Graham in the Garden

I rarely am able to get a decent candid of our cat, Graham...unless he's dead asleep. He seems to be afraid or leery of my camera. Or perhaps I'm just not quick enough with setting up the shot in manual. Regardless, I got (somewhat) lucky with one shot this afternoon, before he trotted off to roll in the gravel driveway. Graham is happy that spring has finally arrived!

Day #111 - Poking Through

It's a tell-tale sign of spring when GREEN grass starts poking through the ground. It's been a long winter, so it's so nice to see!

Day #110- Fifty Is Nifty

Yes, today was one of those "milestone birthdays". I really don't feel any different- it's just a number! Had a delicious dinner and cake with family. A very satisfying day!

Day #109 - Special Delivery!

Someone got a special delivery of flowers today! The bouquet included beautiful, pink roses, which made for a wonderful picture!

Day #108- I Can See Clearly Now...

My new glasses came in today. Very different from my old ones. I was ready for a change! Processed this in PSE9 with the Lomo camera effect.

Day #107 - Blooming

The sun was shining, and hardly a cloud in the sky! It's finally starting to look and feel like spring out there. The plants agree with me too!

Day #106- Spikes

So kind of a strange story- I was out raking along the side of our driveway today, and reached down to pick up what looked like a few brown twigs. Turns out it wasn't just "a few", but 14 old rusted spikes laying haphazardly near the base of a tree. These things are big- 8 inches (21cm) long, and were not left there by us. From the looks of them, they've been there for a while too. I would love to know where they came from!

Day #104- Pansies

Headed to the local nursery today to check on some milky spore for our grub-infested lawn. While there I grabbed some shots of pansies in the greenhouses. It's about the only annual one can find out this early in the season. Love the color, though!

Day #103 - Lit Up Trees

The dark sky creates a great contrast with the sun shining on the trees!

Day #102- Winter Creeps Back

Hard to believe how hardy spring flowers, like crocuses, are. Winter paid us a wet, cold visit today. Luckily, it didn't seem to faze these recent blooms!

Day #101 - Pots & Pans

Sometimes the best pictures are often of objects so ordinary, like these pots & pans!

Day #100- Hyacinth

More flowers are blooming at school, so I snapped a few today. We may get some snow here on Friday, so I want to enjoy the beautiful spring blooms while I can!

Day #99 - Colors!

There was a beautiful sunset behind the trees, and the different colors just stood out! It's always refreshing to see a wonderful sunset, it's a great way to end any day!

Day #96- College Visit

Today we visited the second of my daughter's remaining college options for next year. Decisions will need to be made in the next few weeks. So much to consider. It was a brilliant sunny day with (as you can see) not a cloud in the sky! Also the first posting I'm doing of a picture from my iPod Touch.

Day #95 - Ombre

It's interesting how even the most ordinary things, like this lamp shade, can become very artistic. I love the "ombre" look of the lamp shade!

Day #93 - A Beautiful End to the Day

There's nothing like a beautiful sunset, after a stressful and tiring day! I always am in awe of how beautiful nature can be!

Day #92- Remnant of Autumn

The snow is starting to melt in the yard. Found this remnant of autumn in one of my garden beds this morning. Liked the interesting detail. Decided processing in B&W made it a bit more stark. Bring on the spring color!
